a brutal unwind — when the dips don't work, and patience costs
Morning, Saturday — this one stings, but in a way that's instructive.
Yesterday I told you the dips were working because the tape dislocations were real. Today the tape lied. Six dip buys closed in the red—ARB down −2.92% and −3.2%, MANA down −6.6% and −7.05%, NEAR −4.61%, ALGO twice for −2.53% and −4.4%—all hitting their 1-3 day time limits flat or underwater. None of them got the bounce that justified the entry. That's what happens when you're buying what feels like a dip but turns out to be the start of something worse.
The range shorts split: two won (+3.05% JTO, +3.44% JTO again), two got stopped (−8.01% ADA, −8.04% FIL). That's the trade doing its job—win most, but when you're wrong, you're wrong fast. One long on JUP actually banked +5.1%, and INJ shorted in for +3.08%, but they're noise against the dip buy misfire. Fifteen trades closed. Fifty-three percent won. Cumulative: −2.14% for the day.
Here's what happened: the tape opened into buyers (Bitcoin hitting 11.1% of volume in buyer aggression—the heaviest buyer day in ten days), so the system fired longs on coins that had just been hammered. That logic works when the buyer press sticks. It didn't stick here. By the time these positions aged into their time limits, conviction had evaporated and price was back below entry. You can't predict that reversal. You can only take the loss and move on.
The book is now 18 positions deep, heavy on repeats and shorts—eight open shorts with multiple stacks on SHIB, AAVE, AVAX, ICP, and MANA. Three ATOM longs are sitting almost on top of each other (oldest one hit just 37 hours after the previous), all aimed at +3% with no stop, banking on another dip-buy bounce that hasn't arrived yet. NEAR is two days into a 5-day window, still aiming for +10%. JTO is one day old, hunting +4%.
The repeats are all in the favorable case—no interim bitcoin pump between fires—so the backtest says they should run slightly better than fresh shorts. That's the theory. What you're watching now is whether theory survives this chop.
the market from here
Bitcoin is flat on the day—up 0.25%—but it's been circling the same 1,200-point range since Thursday. Price is sitting just above today's open at $82,766, which means sellers have let it drift a hair higher but own the daily narrative otherwise. Week to date, you're down −4.32%, and that's a meaningful lean: below the 50-day average at 80,716, sitting 5.4% below the 30-day high at 87,447. The 200-day is way down at 71,856—a 15% cushion below where you sit now.
The real question is what happens at 80,523. That's where the 50-day and the week's low stack—two reasons traders will defend it. If that holds, the recent beat-down is a shakeout inside an uptrend. If it breaks, you're looking at the kind of breakdown that invites sellers who haven't shorted yet. Ethereum is uglier: it's down −2.4% from the 50-day and −11.2% off its 30-day high at 2,807, sitting at 2,494. RSI is 39.9—not yet oversold, but worn down. That's a tape where consolidation buys time but doesn't promise anything.
Order flow yesterday was a mixed bag. Bitcoin had the heaviest buyer aggression in ten days, but ethereum was muted at +2.8% and Ethereum volume was only 63% of its 20-day average. That's a classic tell: buyers showing up in the headline but not willing to size. ATOM buyers were genuine (+8.7%, most aggressive in ten days), AAVE buyers pressed (+6.8%, most aggressive in ten days), but AVAX saw the heaviest seller aggression of the stretch at −10.7%. You've got a tape where different coins are telling different stories. Funding on bitcoin is negative (shorts paying, crowd leans short) and ethereum is also negative. That's at least agreement—the leverage crowd is crowded to the short side, and if there's a squeeze it rides north.
Range shorts are firing because coins are stuck. If they unstick, the stops are 8% away—not friendly, but structured. Dip buys are firing because there's conviction in buyers on the tape. That conviction showed up yesterday and evaporated by morning. The lesson of this day is that conviction can be real and still wrong.
one thing worth keeping
You can build an entry that's mechanically sound and still eat a three-day hold of losses because the market changed its mind between Friday and Saturday. That's not a flaw in the system—it's the cost of the game. The stops and time limits exist because days like this happen. You take the loss and the next trade fires on a different tape. You don't compound the mistake by staying in and hoping for a reversal.

The book is stacked heavy on shorts—two on SHIB, two on AAVE, two on AVAX, two on ICP. Three ATOM longs are nearly concurrent, all fired on dips in the last few hours. NEAR has two longs open (one manual, one autonomous), both aimed at +10% / −20% with days left. Those are the eldest positions. The shorts are the structure holding: they fire when range, they exit when the range breaks or time runs out. The dip buys are the vulnerability right now—they're expecting conviction that Saturday morning betrayed.
See you tomorrow — SHIB and AAVE repeats are 1.6 days in, still breathing room before their stops. Watch for any of them to pop the +3% target in the next rally.
