nineteen stops and a market tilting downward

Share

Morning, everyone — this is a rougher day than yesterday's churn, and the numbers show it plainly. Thursday came in with 19 trades closing, and the ledger is trying to hold its ground against a market that's leaning one way.

Let me walk through the closes first, then the broader picture. Yesterday morning we had 19 trades shut down, and the scoreboard reads like this: two stops (−8.01% on JUP, −8.15% on ALGO) bleeding against nine targets that hit cleanly, mostly in the +3% to +3.4% range. ALGO had one wild close — a quick long that banked +9.83% in 48 minutes after bouncing hard off support. That's the shape of a day where the rules are working: you get paid for patience on the shorts, you get paid for catching bounces on the longs, and you eat two full losses when the trade goes the wrong way from the start.

The real story is underneath those closes. JUP fired twice — once as a short that stopped out at −8.01%, then again as a long (meant to be a short by the exit design, but the system switched) and banked +5.01% in 2.4 hours. That's the system healing itself: when a trade breaks, it sometimes swings the other direction and catches the snap-back. It's not skill, it's just how ranges work.

the market from here

Bitcoin is pinned between 82k and the 50-day average at 80.3k — it closed yesterday at 82,578, which is basically today's open, down −0.84% on the day. That's flat, which is how chop looks when you wake up to it: the week is down −4.54%, the month is down −1.18%, but today's range is so tight it's almost invisible. Ethereum is worse. ETH is at 2,543 and sold off −1.14% yesterday; the week's down −6.7%, which means sellers have owned every timeframe — the 50-day, the week, the month. It's sitting just above its 50-day average at 2,546, which is exactly where exhausted rallies die.

The key level underneath both of them tells the story: bitcoin has 74,892 (the 30-day and last-month low) about 9.3% below, and ethereum has 2,356 (same marks) about 7.4% below. Those are the real supports. Everything between here and there is just friction. Order flow yesterday showed sellers pressing on ETH at −18.7% net aggression — the most seller-heavy day of the last ten — while bitcoin saw mild selling at −2%, just background noise.

RSI tells you the market isn't oversold yet: bitcoin is at 50.1 (perfectly balanced), ethereum at 42.7 (tired but not broken). Volatility is quiet — the 7-day average daily range is 2.46% for bitcoin and 2.78% for ethereum, and yesterday's volume on ETH was 1.48x the 20-day norm, which means that selling came on real participation. When sellers show up with volume, they usually keep coming.

Futures positioning is interesting: bitcoin's open interest barely moved (+0.5% on the day, +0.4% on the week) and ethereum blew up +3.7% on the day and +5.0% on the week. That's new shorts pressing in — and they're paying to hold those shorts (funding is negative, which means the short side is paying the long side rent). When you add new leverage to a downtrend, you're usually right right up until you're suddenly very wrong. Squeeze risk is real, but it's not here yet.

The book is voting the same direction: yesterday's closes skewed short (eight range shorts against five longs), and 17 of today's 22 open positions are shorts or mixed. That's not a prediction, that's just what the rules fired on. If bitcoin bounces from here, those shorts will feel it fast.

one thing worth keeping

When a trade fires twice on the same coin within three days, the backtest data says it usually does better than a fresh signal — but only if bitcoin hasn't jumped +2% between the two fires. Yesterday, bitcoin moved −1.76% between the two newest ADA shorts and −1.5% between the two WLD shorts. That's the favorable case. The repeat shorts (BCH, LINK, PENDLE, PEPE) all have bitcoin moves under +2% between entries, which means the edge is still there. That's why they're still open.

The book is carrying 27 live positions, with fresh shorts and longs firing throughout yesterday. BCH and LINK are both six days in on range shorts — they're at the edge of where time limits hurt: one more day and they turn into "I hope it hits target because the stop is getting worse." NEAR, AVAX, and ARB are the older longs, all within their time windows, all still breathing. The smaller positions that fired last night are too young to read yet.

What matters right now: if sellers keep pressing on ethereum, those 20 short positions will profit. If bitcoin bounces 2-3% from here, the long side (especially ARB stacked with three independent entries) will reward that snap-back fast. The repeat shorts are in their window — they've been vindicated by backtest, and bitcoin's moves between fires have been modest enough to keep them alive.

the market from here

One line for a trader watching this: ethereum is one more seller-heavy session away from testing that 2,356 level, but bitcoin's still holding the 50-day at 80.3k — watch which one leads if we get a real drop, because that tells you whether sellers are determined or just tired.

See you tomorrow — BCH needs to close its sixth day either on target or still breathing, and if it rolls into day seven, the math starts working against it.
